Diagnostic categories for osteoporosis

and low bone mass based upon bone mineral density measurement by DXA

 

Category	Bone mass
Normal	[-1 <  T-scor]   A value for BMD withinone SD of  the young adult female reference mean (T-score greater than or equal to -1 SD).
Low bone mass (osteopenia) 골감소증	[-2.5  <  T-score  < -1 ] A value for BMD more than one but less than 2.5 standard deviations below the young adult female reference mean (T-score less than -1 and greater than -2.5 SD).
Osteoporosis 골소공증	[T-score  < -2.5 ]   A value for BMD 2.5 or more standard deviations below the young adult female reference mean (T-score less than or equal to -2.5).
Severe (established) osteoporosis 중증 골소공증	[T-score  < -2.5 ] + fracture   A value for BMD more than 2.5 standard deviations below the young adult female reference mean in the presence of one or more fragility fractures.

DXA: dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry; 

BMD: bone mineral density; 

SD: standard deviation.
